Mike’s Highschool Bolognese Sauce

Ingredients

1 package of cut mushrooms
1 cooking onion, chopped
4 cloves of garlic, chopped
1 red pepper, cut into thin slices
1 jar of passata
1 can of diced tomatoes
1 package of extra lean ground beef
1/2 package of conchiglie (medium size shells) pasta

Recipe

In a pan over high heat, add olive and butter, and then chopped onions.

Once onions are translucent, add garlic and cook for another minute or two.

Next, add ground beef and cook for 4-5 minutes.

Then add mushrooms and peppers and cook for 2-3 minutes.

Add the passata and cook for 2 minutes, then add diced tomatoes. Cook for another 2 minutes then let simmer on low heat.

Fill a pot with water and bring to a boil. Add pasta and cook until al dente (approx 7-10 minutes). Take a scoop of cooked water and add to the sauce. Continue to let it simmer for another 2-3 minutes, uncovered.

Drain pasta, then combine with sauce in the pot. Serve with freshly grated parmesan cheese, and add a little Frank’s red hot if you want to displease your Italian wife!
